Title: All-Star Spectacular
Spectacular, indeed! Sammy's dead-on impressions of Nat King Cole, Louis
Armstrong, Mario Lanza, Jimmy Stewart and dozens of other legends make
up the first half of this 1962 LP, while the second half presents some
of his swingin'-est performances on record. Perhaps the most convincing
demonstration of his jaw-dropping talent! Includes 'That Lucky Old Sun;
Be My Love; Lulu's Back in Town; Stranger in Paradise; Ballerina; Sonny
Boy; I Married An Angel; Falling in Love Again; You Can't Love 'Em All;
If You Are but a Dream; 'Deed I Do', and 'Without a Song'.

Title: What
Kind Of Fool Am I
Sammy joined forces with arranger Marty Paich for this 1962 album of
Broadway standards, and the result was a #14-charting album and a hit
('What Kind of Fool Am I') that became a signature song in Sammy's
repertoire. A classic album, a 'Collectors' Choice Music' exclusive!
Includes 'Once in a Lifetime; A Lot of Livin' to Do; Begin the Beguine;
Can't We Be Friends; Something's Coming; Gonna Build a Mountain; Someone
Nice Like You; Too Close for Comfort; My Romance; Thou Swell; Lost in
the Stars', and the title tune.

album–you're catching Sammy at the peak of his game here! Includes 'As

We Kiss in a Shadow; There Is Nothing Like a Dame; Song from "Two
for the Seesaw" (Second Chance); Out of This World; Back in Your

Title: Salutes The Stars Of The London
Palladium
After a record-breaking, five-week run at the Palladium, Sammy stayed on
in London to record this 1964 tribute record with the cream of London's
musicians, led by noted arranger-conductor Johnny Keating. Sammy sings
fresh, big band arrangements of songs made famous by Nat King Cole,
Frank Sinatra, Matt Monro, Judy Garland and other giants–no
impressions this time, just swingin' interpretations by one of the few
guys who could hold his own with such august pop predecessors! Includes
'Introduction by Sammy Davis, Jr.; My Kind of Girl; Sophisticated Lady;
Ballin' the Jack; Over the Rainbow; (Here Am I) Brokenhearted; Jalousie;
Smile; This Was My Love; Lazy River; Give Me the Moonlight', and
'Tenement Symphony'.

Title: Shelter
Of Your Arms
Sammy was one of Broadway's best interpreters, and this 1964 album ranks
at the top of his strolls down the Great White Way, with smashing
versions of songs from 'Bells Are Ringing, Carousel' and 'Guys and
Dolls', plus the title track, which was one of his biggest hits for
Reprise! Includes 'Bee-Bom; Make Someone Happy; The Party's Over; Some
Days Everything Goes Wrong; The Shelter of Your Arms; A Man with a
Dream; That's for Me; If I Loved You; Come On Strong; I Married an
Angel', and 'Guys and Dolls'.

Title: California Suite
One great singer salutes another on this exclusive 'Collectors' Choice
Music' reissue, as Sammy performs a program of Mel Torme compositions,
including the side-long 'California Suite', Mel's multi-song tribute to
the Golden State that almost takes on the form of a short story! The
second side consists of six more beautiful Torme compositions, including
'A Stranger in Town; A Stranger Called the Blues; Welcome to the Club;
Willow Road; Born to be Blue', and 'The Christmas Song', one of the few
seasonal songs Sammy ever recorded. Perhaps Sammy's most unusual album,
and perhaps his hardest to find!

Title: Sings The Big Ones For Young Lovers
This album gave Sammy some room to run, with big band arrangements of
then-contemporary favorites sung like they never had been before (or
since, for that matter)! Includes 'Kansas City; Don't Shut Me Out; Deep
Purple; Walk Right In; I Left My Heart in San Francisco; Choose; Days of
Wine and Roses; Blue Velvet; Not for Me; I Wanna Be Around; It's All in
the Game', and 'Fools Rush In'.

Title: If I Ruled The World
Sammy once again headed back to Broadway on this 1965 album for another
set of great songs taken from top musicals, and why not, for he himself
was starring at the time in the musical 'Golden Boy'! Three songs from
that show appear here, while another highlight is the song 'Tracey' that
the legendary Jule Styne wrote for Sammy's daughter. A 'Collectors'
Choice Music' exclusive! Includes 'If I Ruled the World; Flash, Bang,
Wallop!; Night Song; Ten Out of Ten; Who Can I Turn To; There's a Party
Going On; Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat; Tracey; Guys and Dolls;
Another Spring', and his showstopping rendition of 'Yes I Can'.

Title: Nat
King Cole Song Book
A more poignant tribute to Nat could not be had, as Sammy recorded this
1965 record only months before his friend's passing. Nat's signature
songs are here, with arrangements by Claus Ogerman and long-time Cole
associate Billy May, while the liner notes include direct quotes from
Sammy taken from a rare promotional album that was released only to
radio stations to support the record's release. A legend salutes a
legend! Includes 'Rambling Rose; Unforgettable; Straighten Up and Fly
Right; Pretend; Ballerina; It's Only a Paper Moon; Smile; Walkin' My
Baby Back Home; Route 66; For Sentimental Reasons; Send for Me; Sweet
Lorraine; The Christmas Song', and 'Mona Lisa/Too Young/Nature
Boy'.

Title:
When The Feeling Hits You!
Imagine
strolling into a Vegas casino lounge for a nightcap and seeing Sammy
Davis Jr. and Sam Butera create some impromptu musical magic! This 1965
album pairing the two legends artfully captures that smoky, late-night
ambience; it’s one of Sammy’s least flashy and most intimate
recordings.

Title:
Sammy's
Back On Broadway
Sammy
never strayed too far from Broadway; he found the book of Broadway show
tunes to be a never-ending source of inspiration throughout his career.
And he certainly was inspired on this album by the contemporary flare
that arranger Claus Ogerman gave some of these songs, particularly 'The
Joker; A Room Without Windows', and 'Hello Dolly' (this is not your
father’s Sammy Davis Jr. album)! But there’s plenty of “old
school” Broadway balladeering here, too: 'A Married Man; Take the
Moment; I Want to Be with You; The Other Half of Me; A Wonderful Day
Like Today; Look at That Face; People; Sunrise, Sunset', and 'Do I Hear
a Waltz'. #104 on the 1965 charts.

Title:
The
Sammy Davis Jr. Show
Released
in early 1966 to tie in with the debut of Sammy’s ill-fated weekly
variety show on NBC (which, due to contractual reasons, he had to skip
for four weeks following its debut!), this album has some real nuggets
for Rat Pack fans in particular, namely 'We Open in Venice', the only
studio recording by Frank, Sammy and Dean, and the Martin-Davis duet,
'Sam’s Song'. The album also boasts two of Sammy’s signature songs,
'What Kind of Fool Am I' and 'Hey There', and eight new recordings
highlighted by two of the many tunes by Anthony Newley and Leslie
Bricusse that Sammy recorded, 'This Dream' and 'Feeling Good', and Sammy
Cahn and Jimmy Van Heusen’s 'More Than One Way'. Other tunes include
'Hey There; Love at Last You Have Found Me; If You Want This Love of
Mine; My Mother the Car' (!), and 'Feeling Good' on one of the
lesser-known entries in the Davis discography.

Title:
The
Sounds Of '66
The big, bold
type on the front cover tells you all you need to know—these two guys,
Sammy Davis Jr. and Buddy Rich, weren’t exactly shrinking violets when
it came to roof-raising showmanship, and this 1966 album, recorded
“live” in Las Vegas over a two-day period, is as raw, raucous and
rockin’ as Sammy ever got. Buddy’s supersonic drum fills and cymbal
crashes make even ballads like 'What Kind of Fool Am I; What Did I Have
That I Don’t Have; What the World Needs Now', and 'If It’s the Last
Thing I Do' swing like all get-out, while the up-tempo numbers—'Come
Back to Me; I Know a Place; Once in Love with Amy; What Now My Love;
Please Don’t Talk About Me When I’m Gone', and an off-the-wall
treatment of 'Ding Dong the Witch Is Dead'—roll like a freight train!
But while Buddy’s the engine, Sammy’s the driver, his tone and
phrasing immaculate even as he wails. A great record.

Sammy Davis Sings
Laurindo
Almeda Plays
One
of Sammy’s most beloved albums, is the 1966 collaboration with the
great Brazilian classical guitarist Laurindo Almeida. Sammy’s outsized
personality expressed itself in the big, bold and brassy recordings that
dominate his discography, but it is on this album, which features just
voice and the gentle sounds of the guitar, that we get perhaps our most
penetrating musical glimpse of the man behind the showman. Wonderful
stuff!

Title:
Sings The Complete Dr. Dolittle
While the 1967 film based on Hugh Lofting’s delightful children’s
stories about a veterinarian who could talk to the animals was kind of a
dud, the music, by a longtime favorite composer of Sammy’s, Leslie
Bricusse, was a sheer joy, made even tastier here by Marty Paich’s
jazzy arrangements!

Title:
Lonely Is The Name
This 1968 release was produced by Jimmy Bowen, who
produced one hit album after another for Dean Martin and 'Strangers in
the Night' for Frank Sinatra two years earlier. So this album seemed
destined for big things, yet it never reached the charts, its title tune
just scraping the Hot 100 at #93. Still, there are some prime Sammy
performances here.

Title:
I've Gotta Be Me
Most
people associate the title tune with Sammy, but Steve Lawrence was the
first to sing it, in a show ('Golden Rainbow') written for him and Eydie
Gorme by Walter Marks. However, the combination of the song’s underdog
theme—yes, Sammy was a mega-star but neither he nor his audience ever
forgot his humble beginnings—and the brilliant arrangement by Bobby
Darin collaborator Frank Wess.

The Goin's Great This
1969 release, Sammy’s next-to-last for Reprise pointed towards the
future with contemporary-sounding arrangements from Jimmy Bowen and
contributed another personal anthem with the great title cut.
